Cannabis Chocolate Chip Cookie: A Simple Plan
Fortunately for novice bakers, the humble edible chocolate chip cookie is one of the most forgiving recipes we know. A little underbaked? A little crispier than you planned? No problem! So long as you don’t change the basic recipe wildly, there’s a good chance they’re still going to be delicious.
What makes recipes for cannabis cookies different from standard recipes is the use of cannabutter or cannaoil. They’re both simple-to-make cannabis-infused fats, and you’ll want to follow this simple recipe before you start the cookies.
Alternately, you can use regular butter (or some alternate fat) in your chocolate chip cookie edible recipe, and instead add a premade cannabis tincture. Pick your nearest dispensary to search our tincture options.
Okay, assuming you’ve got premade cannabutter on hand, here’s the complete list of ingredients:
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda (NOT baking powder!)
- ½ teaspoon salt (if you use kosher salt, increase the amount by 50%)
- ½ cup room temperature (not melted!) cannabutter
- ¾ cup sugar: white sugar, brown sugar, or a 1-to-1 alternate such as monk fruit sugar are all acceptable here
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
The Process
Once you’ve got all these on hand, it’s time to start mixing:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper, or lightly grease a baking sheet
- Whisk the dry ingredients—flour, baking soda, and salt—in a large bowl
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar with a hand mixer until it’s light and fluffy, approximately 2-3 minutes
- Add the egg and vanilla to the creamed butter bowl. Star at a low speed and gradually increase to incorporate them well
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed butter mixture, mixing as you go.
- Once all the ingredients are well incorporated, fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
- Using an ice-cream scoop or two spoons, form tablespoon-sized dough balls and place them evenly 2″ apart on the prepared baking sheets
- Bake in for 7-10 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown all over
- Remove the cookies from the oven and them to cool a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack
That’s it! Now it’s time to enjoy your cookies—but do so responsibly. Remember, the cannabis in infused edibles can take up to 90 minutes to take effect. We advise that you wait at least that long to assess how strong the first dose was.
On a related note: Always be sure to keep all cannabis-infused treats out of the hands of children and pets (or anyone else who shouldn’t be ingesting cannabis).
